Providence hospital says goodbye to sugary drinks

Medford, Ore. — Providence Hospital says they will no longer be selling sugary drinks.

Starting January 19th the cafeteria, gift shop and vending machines will have less of the sweet and more of the healthier

Drinks with 5% or more “added sugar” in them will be gone.

The Director of General Services, Karen Bartalini says its part of the hospital’s “Healthy Dinning Initiative” which began last February,”as a health care provider its important that we really represent whats important to us and sugar and sugar sweetened beverages add or contribute to a lot of disease processes.”

The cafeteria will still offer diet soda. The sugary drinks will be replaced with 100% natural fruit juices and flavored waters.

All eight providence hospitals in Oregon are making the change.
