Record Breaking Summer Temperatures?

The National Weather Service says since recordiong began in 1911, the 2013 summer season ranks in the top five hottest summers for most locations.

“We’ve been suffering through a very hot summer, July has been about 5 1/2 degrees above normal,” says Meteorologist Ryan Sandler.

Medford, Klamath Falls, and Montague all fall into the top 3.

Sandler says “we’ve had 9 days already that have been 100* or higher, typically in an entire summer we see 9 days that reach 100* or higher”

2013 is in a close tie with 2006 for the hottest summer for Medford.

Sandler notes, “this could be a big summer for 100* temperatures.”

For Roseburg this is the hottest summer on record.

And we still have what is normally the hottest part of the summer still to come.

Sandler says “I can’t say if the hottest weather is behind us. The very end of July and early August is the hottest time of year”

Will there be a record breaking summer or some relief from the heat in sight

According to Sandler “the outlook for august is closer to normal temperatures, but then September is supposed to be warmer than normal.”

So we will have to wait till September comes to find out if the summer of 2013 will be hitting the record books.

But Sandler predicts “the chances aren’t good to be the hottest summer ever, but is still likely going to be one of the hotter summers we have experienced.”
