Recovery center director training for 5K for personal addiction

Medford, Ore.– The director of a faith based addictions recovery center is defeating one of his own addictions by eating healthier and exercising.And he’s doing it all for the recovery center.

Doug Gould, the Director of Foundations for Recovery in Medford said he had an eating addiction and is now hoping to raise thousands for the recovery center.

By running in Saturday’s Pear Blossom 5K.

Gould and his pup Juno are training have been training at by going on walks and jogs.

“I started talking to a young man who had two months clean off off heroin and I said to myself, ‘Wow how can I give advice to this young man if I don’t look and realize my addiction to food'”

Gould said it all clicked in January when he weighed 400 pounds

“Today I’m down 72 pounds.”

Since then he’s been eating healthier and training for this Saturday’s Pear Blossom 5K.

“I decided why not put together something where I could challenge myself with weight loss and also give people an opportunity to pledge per kilometer for my 5K.”

Gould is hoping to raise $10,000 for the faith based recovery center.

By taking $2,000 dollar donations per kilometer he runs.

“All of the money we raise is going right back into the foundation. Especially for our youth program and also for adult services as well.”

“I’m going to jog, walk, and crawl my way to the finish line.”

Gould, who is also a recovering alcoholic said he can relate to those who are trying to break free from addiction. As of Monday night, Gould raised more than $1,700
