Ribbon Cutting for Brand New Community Garden

Hundreds of hungry mouths in Medford now have an additional resource they can use for help.

On Saturday, the Medford Gospel Mission held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their brand new community garden.

Officials said they plan to teach families how to grow their own food which will cut costs at the grocery store.

“[We plan to] Have the master gardeners and people in this community come and have some educational time, have a place to grow their own vegetables and hopefully bring some of that stuff to their home and cook it,” said Greg Unger, one of the project planners.

Experts said they’ve seen the number of people who are in need double in Jackson and Josephine counties.

Statewide, more than 1-million emergency food boxes went out to families last year; that’s a record number.
