It’s a situation both the grants pass police, and school districts say they are taking very seriously.
“As soon as a student reports something like this, we immediately report it to our student resource officer” says Shelly Ely of the Grants Pass School District.
Wednesday, police say a man in his 30’s or 40’s pulled up in some sort of blue/teal minivan trying to lure a middle school student into his vehicle.
A day later police say a man fitting a similar description was seen taking pictures of high school girls at their bus stop.
“Our patrols officers in both marked and unmarked vehicles are watching that area where we’ve seen him,” says Lt. Jim Hamilton of the Grants Pass Police.
Grants Pass Police are counting on the public to help.
Lt. Hamilton says “someone is going to call us and that’s going to give us the tip we need to get us to find out who this person is and find out exactly what they’re up to.”
Police say the key is to be a good witness.
“Call 911 right away let us know what you are seeing, where the guy is, what the description is,” says Lt. Hamilton.
The suspect is being described as a white male, with short curly brown hair and a bottom lip piercing.
School officials say they are working with parents, employees and especially the students.
Ely says “if you keep that open line of communication with the students…We want the kids to feel safe talking to any adults on campus, the resource officer or anyone with the police department.”
Fortunately in both cases no children were hurt and police say they want it to stay that way.
