Search continues for missing man at Lake Siskiyou

SISKIYOU DAY TWO PICLake Siskiyou, Calif. — Search crews spent another day at Lake Siskiyou, looking for missing man Darion  Lucero, 21. Deputies with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office say he was reported missing on Thursday, but hasn’t been heard from since the 9th.

Also known as Spirit Sparrow, Lucero was reported missing by the group he was camping with. After leaving his dog tied up, the group thinks he tried to cross the Sacramento river. That’s where Sheriff Jon Llpey thinks the trouble began.

“We’d had some storms in the recent past, and the water level was pretty high and the water was swift,” Lopey said.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Dive Recovery team has been using sonar technology to search the deep water of the lake.

“It’s essentially giving us a look at the bottom of the lake,” Sergeant Mike Gilley said. “If we see something that looks maybe suspicious, or it warrants a check we’ll put divers in the water to take a look, but the depth changes.”

After finding something that resembled a human body on Monday, divers were sent in.  But after nearly an hour of searching, they weren’t able to find anything in the murky water.

Lucero’s cell phone was found in the river on Monday, near where authorities think he crossed the water. From this point on, that’s where the search will be centered.
