Smoke helping crews get a handle on Beaver Fire

Near Klamath River, CA. — Hundreds of firefighters are in Siskiyou County battling the Beaver Fire. It’s burning west of I-5, and north of Highway 96 and the Klamath River.

The blaze has scorched more than 10,500 acres and it only 2 % contained as of Monday afternoon.

The fire has come close to home, but crews have made protecting them a top priority.

“We’ve lost no structures during this fire, and also had no firefighter injuries,”said Corey Wilford, a public information officer.

The valley is filled with thick heavy smoke but that iskeeping the hot temperatures out and and the humidity up.

“It’s actually keeping the fire activity minimal,” Wilford said.

Highway 96 is only open to local residents.

There is an evacuation advisory in effect for residents near Klamath River on Highway 96 and Beaver Creek Road.
