Smoky skies bring air quality concerns

Medford, Ore. — According to the Department of Environmental Quality, air quality levels for much of the Rogue Valley remain at “good” or “moderate.”

Byron Peterson, a Resource Specialist with the Oregon DEQ said the weather has cooperated and smoke hasn’t been choking the valley like last year.

This go-around it looks like most of the smoke is moving over the valley.

Peterson said while conditions are looking alright now, they’re keeping a close watch on air quality levels.

“As we experienced last year, smoke levels could change very dramatically. We saw huge swings within an hour or so last year,” said Peterson.

According to Peterson, last year so many people logged onto their website that it crashed.

This year, they’ve made improvements and the air quality website can handle more people.
