To the 4,500 kids of the Central Point School District Superintendent Randy Gravon is, as one former president would call him, the ‘Decider’.
Oh, you’re the one who calls the snow days…so they know that’s my responsibility.
And it’s a big one.
Part I like least about my job it’s 50/50.
Weather is of course, notoriously fickle, and Gravon does not count himself a weatherman.
So like many of his fellow superintendents he relies on assistance.
Hey Susan.
Gravon consults with First Student Transportation Manager Susan Quaintance, who’s up driving the higher elevation bus routes by 4 am.
I drive the roads, my team drives the roads, look at ice and snow.
With safety always at the forefront of their minds…
Safety is our primary concern.
Gravon and Quaintance make their decision… to cancel school, go to a 2-hour delayed start, or have the buses use alternate snow routes.
We try to make a decision no later than 5:30. We talk amongst our team and to other teams to see what the other First Student Managers are doing there.
Like most school district’s Central Point posts their delay and closure information on there district website.
Gravon and Quaintance also notify local tv and radio stations… because as the Decider says…
This creates a disruption for families…
And Superintendent Gravon wants what’s best for his kids… even if they have no idea what a superintendent does every day.
