Stolen Truck Pursuit Results in Crashes, Jail

A cop car was hit during a wild pursuit of a stolen vehicle through Klamath Falls Wednesday night…and two suspects are facing multiple charges in that case.

25 year old Joseph Nelson faces charges including attempted aggravated murder.

Police say he and 43 year old Allen Owen of Lakeview tried to elude officers in a stolen truck.

“The pursuit continued pretty much all the way through town.” Notes Sergeant Clif Barden of the Oregon State Police. “And county did end up taking them, both suspects that were in the stolen truck into custody.”

Sgt. Barden notes that Deputy West Packer tried to stop the pursuit in a residential neighborhood…

“Basically the deputy that was driving the vehicle attempted to pin the suspect truck, and keep him from continuing the pursuit – but instead he just got rammed.”

Deputy Packer wasn’t seriously injured.

Motorcyclist Jack Tucker says the suspects also ran into his friend’s bike…

“Well, we just seen him eluding a police officer, and they came out off this street to make a right hand turn, and ran into the front end of us.’ ‘Is your buddy okay’ ‘Yeah, he’s fine.”

Police say the suspects also hit a blue SUV before fleeing the scene.

The suspects eventually ditched the truck, and were caught by officers as they tried to run away.

Allen Owen is charged with auto theft, while Joseph Nelson faces 16 counts including attempted murder.

Sheriff’s deputies, Klamath Falls Police, and State Police Officers were all involved in the pursuit, and capture.

The Oregon State Police are in charge of the crash investigations.
