Talent family files lawsuit against police after son dies in custody

Talent, Ore. — A Talent family is filing a lawsuit against local police for five million dollars after they say their son died while in police custody.

Chris and Shelley Ladue filed the Civil Rights suit in Federal Court, claiming their son Karl Ladue, who suffered from schizophrenia, died from injuries sustained during his 2012 confrontation with police in Talent.

The Ladue family says Karl had ingested synthetic marijuana which aggravated his condition.

Talent and Phoenix police as well as Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded and used force, including tasers, to detain Ladue.

Attorneys for the Ladue family and the police agencies involved all declined comment.
