Scientists at one Northwest University are on the verge of a medical breakthrough with a test that could screen babies for more than 3,000 genetic disorders before they are born.
Scientists at the University of Washington say with a blood sample from the mother, and a swab of saliva from the father they could soon screen unborn babies for genetic diseases, such as cancer.
However, some this morning say the procedure could lead to more problems, as well as more abortions.
At this point, scientists say the tests are 99 percent accurate.
More research is needed before the test will be open to the public.
