Update: Hundreds Of Dead Fish Found In Ashland Creek

Program Director for Rogue Riverkeeper, Forrest English, took us down to the creek, but now a day later there were barely any of the dead fish in sight. The water pollution started at the Ashland Wastewater Treatment Plant but agencies are still trying to figure out what caused the fish kill.English says this is exactly why we have laws to protect water and our fish.

Mike Faught with the Ashland Department of Public Works explained that sometimes these instances happen when there’s a low level of oxygen in the water or pesticide poisoned bugs.But local agencies are running tests to determine the cause.

English says its important to be aware of what goes into the storm drains and what pesticides you use to kill insects.Even though it’s unclear if pesticides did contribute to this most recent fish kill, it’s important to prevent further damage.
