Medford, Ore.–8 to 10 acres have burned south of South Stage Rd. on Surrey Dr. in Medford after a grass fire sparked just before 3 p.m. Friday.
Oregon Department of Forestry, Medford Fire Department, Fire District 5 and Jacksonville Fire Department all responded.
Fire officials said brush, grass and pear trees went up in flames. They think the fire started somewhere near a power pole, but have not named an official cause.
As of 3:45 p.m. Friday, fire officials said the fire was pretty much contained. They plan to remain on scene to put out hot spots.

Medford, ore.– Medford fire investigators said a power pole caused an 8.6 acres grass fire on Surrey Drive.
They say a spark ignited the field that also has a pear orchard on it.
Nearly 50 firefighters from a half a dozen agencies and an Oregon Department of Forestry helicopter responded.
Crews were still mopping up the blaze as the sun went down making sure nothing sparked up again.
