Use Of Seclusion Cells for Students In Oregon May End

The Oregon Senate has voted to make “seclusion cells” used to isolate misbehaving students in schools illegal. The law would get rid of any freestanding or self-contained unit or cell used for punishment.It would not ban larger rooms used as time-out areas.

Under current law, Oregon allows children to be secluded when there’s an imminent threat of bodily injury. The bill will now go to governor Kitzhaber for his signature.
