Protesters across the nation gathered Saturday to raise awareness about Guantanamo Bay, the prison in Cuba where since the 1950’s prisoners of war have been tortured.
One rally was held in downtown Medford at Vogel Plaza.
Veteran’s for Peace say Saturday marks the 12th anniversary that American soldiers have been held captive at Guantanamo Bay and that it’s a day to try and educate others about the conditions and unfair treatment towards those prisoners.
“What’s going on there has been hidden from the American people by enlarge. There’s little squibs of information that come out from time to time, but mostly people don’t have any real knowledge about Guantanamo,” said one protester.
Members of Veteran’s for Peace acted as prisoners and guards at the Plaza in memory of eight prisoners that have died there since 2006.
