What looked like it was going to be a nice day turned into a wet and soggy one.
Winds and rain swept through the Rogue Valley beginning this afternoon.
While mother nature may have put a damper on weekend plans, the rain is much needed.
Several area lakes have low water levels.
A glimmer of hope, it looks like prayers for snow on Mt. Ashland have been answered.
The ski area today hosted a “Pray for Snow” party and that’s exactly what they got.
Snow began falling this afternoon on the top of Mt. Ashland.
This has been one of the driest seasons on record.
Mt. Ashland has not been open for business, which means no sales whatsoever.
So organizers say the party is a kick-off to a better season ahead.
“We just have to run real smart the rest of the year. When we do open, we’ll probably run with a lower staff and keep expenses down and hopefully end up with a positive year.”
“It’s a rarity to not be able to go skiing in January, but the prayers are going up and the snow is coming down. So hopefully we’ll have enough to open the mountain soon.”
The last time Mt. Ashland saw a dry spell like this was in February 1977.
The lodge will also be celebrating it’s 50 year anniversary this year.
