White House Pressing on Long Term Unemployment Benefits

The Obama administration is putting the thumbscrews to Congressional Republicans over long term unemployment extensions. More than 1.3 million Americans whove been out of work more than six months lost their benefits three days after Christmas.

The extension was the subject of the Presidents weekly address on Saturday; he called it cruel. And a top economic advisor toured the Sunday talk shows warning of damage to the economy if benefits are not extended. The Guardian reports Senate Democratic leadership is also pushing the issue on Capitol Hill.
