Getting ready for a blast of winter weather…
“This will be the first big one of the year, we’re looking forward to it”
Snow levels are expected to drop to around 2000-3000 feet. Tricky driving situations are expected for parts of Highway 140, the Crater Lake area and of course, the Siskiyou Pass.
So, Dan Gallagher at the Texaco Station off Exit 14 in Ashland is prepping up.
“We’ve got a supply of chains and we’re full and ready to go,” said Gallagher.
They aren’t the only ones preparing for slick spots and snow.
“We’re 24-7 staffed with personnel,” began Everett Carroll, ODOT Transportation Manager.
“We are expecting 1-2 inches of snow on the pass which isn’t much but it’s enough to cause some problems,” said Carroll.
ODOT crews were hard at work Tuesday afternoon, trying to make sure road conditions remain safe for drivers.
“What’s really hurting us now is this freezing fog in and out right now so we’re in the middle of pre-treating and keeping the ice off the roads right now,” Carroll said.
Officials recommending drivers carry some chains in the trunk.
“You never know when you need them,” added Carroll.
He urged drivers to take it a bit slower on roads that could potentially freeze up and ice over.
