Local robotics teams in world championship

Medford, Ore. — For the first ever, Southern Oregon will be competing in the robotics world championship

St. Mary’s has two robotics teams that competed at the First Tech Challenge in Oakland, Calif., last weekend and both exceeded expectations.

The tournament brought together 72 teams from 13 western states and three countries.

One of the coaches has sons on each team, which has been fun for him to be apart of.

“And of course because they compete against each other I have a vested interest in both times, it’s really kind of fun,” said Ted Willhite, coach for St. Mary’s Robotics. “One team wins–the other team wins, we go back and forth. Lot of fun, very exciting.”

The FTC World Championship will be held in St. Louis, Mo., and take place on April 27.
