Marion County, Ore. – A Woodburn man drowned Sunday afternoon after police say he jumped off a dock into the Willamette River.

Police said OSP troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of a swimmer who went underwater and hadn’t been seen for minutes at the Willamette Mission State Park near the Wheatland Ferry Boat Ramp.

Troopers said they couldn’t locate the man until around 9:00 that evening. After an investigation, they identified the deceased man as 36-year-old Nava Castro, from Woodburn.

According to OSP, Castro had jumped off a dock, resurfaced, but then disappeared. He was not wearing a floatation device at the time.
