Medford police pursuit update

Medford, Ore., — An update to a story we brought you last night about a dramatic police chase.

It’s video you will only see here on NBC5.

Late yesterday afternoon 28-year-old Skyler Morse took off from police after being pulled over for driving a stolen car.

Morse hit spike strips near the South Medford exit but was able to keep driving until Exit 23 near Phoenix where he crashed.

Oregon State Police say their choice on pursuits vary depending on the conditions, and constantly evaluate the risk verse the reward.

“In this particular case it was on the freeway, speeds were 65-70 it wasn’t excessive, he wasn’t driving off the road he wasn’t driving in a terribly reckless manner.” said Sergeant Jeff Proulx with Oregon State Police.

Morse is still in the hospital tonight in fair condition.

Police say when he is healthy and released, he will be charged with eluding police, among multiple others.
