Medford police warn clown pranksters

Medford police are taking to Facebook tonight to address all the calls they’re receiving about the creepy clown fad.

Police are getting so many calls about these scary clown pranks that they’re warning members of the community who participate.

They posted on their Facebook page tonight asking residents to consider their choice to participate in the clown fad.

Police say that if you are caught participating in criminal behavior, you can be arrested, and if they don’t catch you, there is the possibility someone else may not see it as a joke and hurt the pranksters.

Medford police write, “after all, we know you are just kids, or in some cases adults acting like kids, so please heed our warning and stop the shenanigans.”

The scary clown trend began in South Carolina earlier this year, when children were beckoned to by people dressed as clowns in the woods.

Since then the fascination has become a three ring circus across the country.

It’s not just a problem here in Medford.

Central Point Police Department arrested 21-year-old Michael Richard after he was identified from this clown photo taken at Crater High School. He’s being charged with Disorderly Conduct and Trespass II.

Clowns have also been reported near Merlin and Grants Pass.
