Medford sees decrease in crime in 2015

Medford, Ore. — Medford Police saw an overall decrease in crime in 2015. The department’s annual report shows decreases of 20% or more for cases of robbery, burglary, and arson, leading to a 7% decrease in serious crimes overall.

Police say there’s no silver bullet but social media, and public and area partnerships have helped.

“Whether its parole sweeps, or sex offender sweeps or what have you that help keep people accountable in the Medford area it all plays a part in reducing crime,” Deputy Chief Brett Johnson says.

Police hope to maintain the downward trend this year, however there has been a significant spike in thefts from vehicles which are up almost 120% in 2016.
