Michigan dog survives brush with bear

nc_bearsvsdogs0913_1500x845Montmorency County, Mich. (WPBN) — Residents of Montmorency County, Michigan are being warned to keep an eye out for bears as hibernation season approaches.

As hibernation season nears, the bears get much more aggressive in trying to stock up on food before the winter sets in.

Several dogs have been injured in recent encounters with bears.

The first attack came last Thursday night when a 4-year-old lab named Blake went into a nearby year to check out some strange noises.

What Blake found was a 400 pound black bear that residents of the neighborhood had spotted stalking around the area for years.

“The boys have seen it on the bus crossing 624 heading over towards the Rush Lake neighborhood when the buses come through,” said Blake’s owner Robert Farnsworth. “That’s kind of a dangerous thing when them kids are getting off the bus walking to their houses.”
