Missing hunter found dead in Siskiyou County

1011-donald-nylundSiskiyou County, Cal. – The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office was notified on October 8th that 66-year-old Montague resident Donald Nyland was reported missing. He was last seen on October 7th when he left his home to go hunting in rural areas of Siskiyou County.

Deputies said Nyland was driving his Ford pick-up truck, and may have also been using an ATV. He did not have a cell phone at the time of his disappearance.

According to SCSO, multiple agencies searched for Nyland over the next day. On October 9th, his truck was found unoccupied on Desavado Road.

SCSO said on October 10th, Nyland was found deceased in the area of Desavado and Cod. A preliminary investigation indicated Nyland may have had an accident involving the ATV he was driving. However, the exact cause is still under investigation.

Siskiyou County Sheriff John Lopey said, “This was a very tragic end to the search effort conducted by our SAR team, CHP, and other agencies. On behalf of the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to offer our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers to Mr. Nyland, his family, and friends in the aftermath of his untimely death.”
