“Pokemon Go” blamed in shooting

NC_pokemonshooting0719_1500x845Flager County, Fla. (WESH) — Florida authorities are investigating a shooting connected to the “Pokemon Go” smartphone game.

Two teens were playing the game late Friday night in a neighborhood when a homeowner mistook them for burglars.

The homeowner came out armed, and as he approached their car he heard someone say, “Did you get anything?”

The homeowner thought someone stole something and he stepped in front of the car, yelling, “Stop right there.”

“He claims they charged him, he was able to move out of the way and he shot the vehicle several times,” Jim Troiano, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, says.

Whether the homeowner is charged criminally is still part of the investigation.

“He still states he retreated out of the way, however once that threat is gone, there is no longer the need to discharge your firearm. Stand your ground is truly not stand your ground when that threat is already leaving and there is no need for the use of deadly force,” Troiano says.
