Medford, Ore.– Patients at Providence Medford Medical Center enjoyed a special visit from some soccer superstars this morning.

Portland Timbers’ midfielder Jack Jewsbury and Timbers 2 players Dylan Damraoui and Brent Richards joined by mascot Timber Joey went from room to room shaking hands, taking pictures and signing autographs for fans.

It’s all part of the team’s community outreach that Jewsbury says is just as special for the players as it is for their fans.

“For us its all about giving back, you know, our fans and the community gives so much to us,” says Jewsbury.  “Not only in Portland, but also surrounding cities like Medford so for us to come out here and be able to say ‘hello’ and put some smiles on their faces, it’s what its all about.”

The team’s 2015 MLS cup also made the trip, just one stop on the teams “Rose City Road Trip.”

The next stop on the Timbers Medford tour was getting out on the field with local kids.  The players spent the afternoon at U.S. Cellular Park at a free soccer clinic for kids ages 5 to 12.

The Timbers youth development staff offered skills training and kids were treated to a special autograph and Q & A session with the players.  A few lucky groups even got to play with midfielder Jack Jewsbury.  The Timbers hope to encourage kids to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle at an early age.
