Portland, Ore. — (KGW) Chris Collins said he got sick less than two days after he ate a chicken bowl at a Lake Oswego Chipotle two weeks ago.

“Each day it did get worse and worse. Initially, I went to an urgent care and when I got there they said I was too sick and they would have to send me to the emergency room,” said Collins, a self-employed web developer.

Collins said he got so sick that he couldn’t work.

“I couldn’t do anything. I wasn’t thinking straight, I was feeling really awful.”

Health officials in Washington and Oregon say a total of 40 people have gotten sick with E. coli in an outbreak linked to Chipotle restaurants in the two states. More than 40 Chipotle restaurants remain closed in Washington state and the Portland area while authorities search for the cause.
