Seattle, Wash. — (KING) A Thurston County SWAT team shot and killed a man who held his daughter at knifepoint for hours Sunday.

Deputies were called to a home in the 8400 block of 49th Loop SE, just southeast of the Lacey city limits, at 5:34 p.m. for a report of a stabbing.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found a 27-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. The victim told them he was attacked by his cousin who was still inside the home. That victim was then taken to Harborview Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Deputies escorted the victim’s parents out of the home, the sheriff’s office said, as the suspect went into a bedroom with his 3-year-old daughter. The sheriff’s office said the man could be seen during the standoff holding his daughter as a shield and threatening her with the knife.

Just over three hours after the first call came in, a SWAT marksman shot and killed the suspect, allowing SWAT to rescue the girl. The sheriff’s office said she was not hurt and was released to her mother after being checked out by medics.
