Minimum age for buying tobacco in question

320x180_31031P00-SDSUNMultnomah County, Ore. — Some local health advocates are asking for the minimum age of buying tobacco to be raised.

Public health advocates asked the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners Tuesday to raise the minimum age to 21.

The recommendation came as the commissioners held their first hearing to consider charging licensing fees to stores who sell tobacco products.

Hawaii is the only state that requires the minimum age to be 21 and Alabama, Alaska, New Jersey, and Utah require the age to be 19.
