Special Olympians take on Hustlin’ Owls

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Oregon Tech ‘Hustlin’ Owls’ take on a team that they haven’t beaten in 43 years…

Coach Danny Miles has yet to beat the Special Olympians.

“It’s been 79-78 like, 12 years in a row.”  Noted Coach Miles.  “They keep hitting the last basket.  They’ve been very consistent, they’re 42 and 0.”

Lady Owl Karly Leveque says the Special Olympians have an edge:  “They work really hard, and they’ve got a lot of heart – and they just never give up.”

Men’s basketball player Austen Flint agrees…

“It seems like they get us every year.  For some reason, we can’t stop them here or there – they make big shots.”

The night is a big one, but Special Olympian Darci Peterson notes this year’s game was bittersweet…

“Very excited to be here – very UN-excited, because this will be Danny Miles’ last year.”

The game is also one of the high points of the year for Coach Miles.

Though Special Olympian Haylie Quinn is calling ‘foul’…

“Why does he have to retire?  He can’t retire!  He’s still a cool guy!”

In the end, the Special Olympians came out on top…by a score of 79 to 78.

While Coach Miles is retiring, the games with Special Olympians are likely to continue under new Oregon Tech coach Justin Parnell.
