Ruch students help with renovation at Cantrall Buckley Park

Jacksonville, Ore. — An effort is underway in the Applegate to give a 40-year-old playground new life. Friday, some of the finishing touches were put on by students from Ruch.

Seventh graders from Ruch got to spend some time outside the classroom Friday.

“Helping the community out for sure,” Treyson Bauman says, “spreading bark and having fun.”

Nearly $80,000 was raised for the renovation which includes a new playground, swings, and some fixes to a few of the original park items. Committee Chair Tom Carstens says it’s been a community-wide effort.

“The community loves this park,” Tom Carstens says, “this is one of the most well-used regional parks in Jackson County.”

The kids say they feel good, lending a helping hand.

“It makes me feel great because I like to help a lot,” Bradley Sandgren says.

“Help the community, and know that I’m doing something for someone else,” Amanda Drane says.

The playground is now ready to use. In the fall, they’ll start renovations on the park’s bathrooms.
