Seaside police officer shot and killed Friday night

N0206E02Seaside, Ore. – A 13 year veteran of the Seaside Police Department was shot and killed Friday night while serving a warrant. Oregon state police say it happened in seaside  just before 9:30. The officer has been identified as 39 year old sergeant Jason Goodding. Oregon State Police say Goodding and another officer contacted 55 year old Phillip Ferry, and when they tried to arrest him for a felony assault warrant, Ferry resisted.  A taser was used to try to get Ferry into custody. OSP says that’s when he shot and killed Sergeant Goodding. The additional officer shot and killed Ferry. Sergeant Goodding lived in the Seaside community and was hired with Seaside Police Department in April of 2003. Along with dedicating himself to serving the public he also coached several different sports teams within the Seaside area. He is survived by his wife and school aged children.  NBC5 News sends our condolences to his family and the Seaside Police Department.
