Some begin to wonder if April the giraffe’s pregnancy is a big joke

Harpursville, N.Y. — People all over the world have seen it on their social media feeds for nearly a month.

Live streams of April the Giraffe have been shared since late February with captions like, “Is today the day?” and, “Any day now!”

But April’s prolonged “labor” has some people wondering if the giraffe is actually expecting.

Rob Banks, a radio host at WYRK, wrote “…it’s almost April and this is a total set up for an April Fool’s Day prank! I mean, they have to know when the baby is getting close, they can’t be off THAT much.”

A KFROG article is also asking tough questions about April’s alleged pregnancy: “Think about it: Momma is named “April”, and you would THINK that the veterinarians and/or zoo officials would have a BETTER window for when momma is going to start laboring…. say a WEEK, not a month… so it kind of makes sense.”

Or is this all just a simple misunderstanding? Maybe April isn’t as close to giving birth as all those shared Facebook posts would lead us to believe.

April’s handlers at Animal Adventure Park posted about her pregnancy on March 19, saying in part, “All are happy with the progress, we are not in labor at this time.”

Animal Adventure Park’s latest updates also indicate the giraffe is very pregnant, but not in labor. On March 26, the park wrote, “This morning’s keeper report notes just how large April appears! Also, baby is extremely “quiet” this morning… calm before the storm? There are notable bulges on April’s left side today.”

So what do you think? Is April really pregnant, or are we all being trolled by a giraffe? Only time will tell.
