Special Olympics Oregon weight lifting competition

Grants Pass, Ore,. — Special Olympics athletes got their chance to compete at the state championships in Grants Pass today.

The weight lifting competition included dead lifts, squats and bench pressing.

Participants came from all over Oregon to compete at North High School in Grants Pass.

For some athletes it was fairly new, but others have been part of Special Olympics for years.

“I love the crowd, I can lift whatever I want with the crowd. The crowd’s behind you.” said one athlete, Cheyanne West.

“I’m having fun, I’m having a great time. Meeting new people.” said another athlete, Bryce Myers.

Special Olympic sports are year round – so though weight lifting may be ending today, there’s a new sport ready to go for those who want to play starting in April.
