Del Norte County, Cal.- A man, woman and dog stranded near the Devil’s Punchbowl area of the Siskiyou Wilderness have been found and are in good condition.

The hikers became stranded overnight Tuesday when snow fell and covered up the trail. Search and Rescue crews hoped to reach them by helicopter Wednesday, but the weather didn’t allow it. Road crews cleared snow leading up to the trailhead, but had to abandon efforts once the sun set.

The rescue efforts resumed at daybreak Thursday. Crews from Jackson, Josephine and Siskiyou counties assisted Del Norte County in the effort. Six crews members were able to make contact with the hikers Thursday afternoon. They were found cold and hungry, but otherwise in good condition.

Due to weather conditions and lack of daylight, crews made the decision to put up tents and camp with the hikers Thursday night, then hike out Friday morning.
