Eagle Point couple’s trip to see Pope ‘inspiring’

Washington, D.C. – Nick and Ruth Hewitt won tickets to see Pope Francis in Washington through Representative Ron Wyden’s office. It’s a trip they thought they would never take.

“We’re so happy to be here, and it’s, I think it’s exceeded our expectations,” Ruth said.

The couple joined thousands of people on the National Mall Thursday, to watch on jumbotrons as the Pope gave a speech to Congress. After the address, the Pontiff walked out to a balcony, and greeted the masses.

“Being able to see him with our own eyes, it’s just pretty amazing,” Nick said.

The couple are meeting with Representative Walden on Friday, before returning home on Sunday.
