Winter weather causes power outage

Medford, Ore. — Thousands are without power tonight after Tuesday’s heavy snowfall.  Pacific Power says as of now, around 11,000 customers are experiencing a power outage. But crews are working as hard as they can to change that.

“We have very dense wet snow which is causing tress to fall down on our lines,” said Christina Kruger

With thousands of homes in Jackson and Josephine County without power.  Christina Kruger, from Pacific Power, has been working around the clock to make sure it’s handled.

“We have many extra crews. We’ve called in crews from other areas including Portland, Albany, and even Bend,” Kruger said.

The electrical company doubled its personnel within the past week to help keep up with demand.

“We still have crews going out and doing some scouting of the areas to really determine where all the outages are and what the causes are in order for us to work through the logistics and get it all cleaned up,” Kruger said.

Pacific Power said it also has tree trimming crews to help give electrical teams access. While Pacific Power is doing everything it can to restore power to homes, it hopes families are doing their part to protect themselves.

“The best thing people can do is to stay safe. Please make sure to stay away from all downed power lines,” Kruger said.

If you see a downed power line, consider it live, do not touch it – back away and call 911, then your electric company. Pacific Power plans on bringing in extra resources throughout the week.
