Eureka man arrested for drug trafficking in Ohio

Millbury, Ohio – Police in Ohio arrested a northern California man who was found with 71 pounds of marijuana disguised as Christmas gifts in his SUV.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers stopped a rented Ford Expedition with a Washington State license plate on November 21st after the SUV was seen following another vehicle too closely on Interstate 80.

Troopers said they saw “criminal indicators” and a drug-sniffing dog alerted that there may be drugs in the vehicle. A search revealed 10 gift-wrapped boxes containing 71 pounds of marijuana, 360 THC pills and one pound of hash oil. The drugs were estimated to be worth around $330,000.

31-year-old Eureka resident Daniel A. Yates was arrested and charged with possession and trafficking in drugs, according to OSHP. If convicted, he could face up to 16 years in prison.
