Astoria, Ore. — A magnitude 3.8 earthquake shook the northwest corner of Oregon this morning.
The USGS says the quake was reported just before 8:00 Wednesday morning, about 7 miles northwest of Astoria.
The earthquake struck more than 34 miles underground.
Portland NBC affiliate KGW reports geologist Scott Burns called the event a “friendly earthquake” that is too small to do major damage, but a good reminder that we live in earthquake territory.
The 3.8 quake was too small to trigger a tsunami watch.
