New eruptions near Puna, Hawaii

PUNA, Hi. (KHNL/NBC)  – New eruptions are spewing lava and toxic gases in lower Puna, Hawaii and more activity was seen at fissure 17 Friday.

The fissure produced a lava flow which is advancing toward the ocean.

Hawaii County Civil Defense officials say at least 325 acres of land have now been covered with lava in the Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens subdivisions, where mandatory evacuation orders have been in place for more than two weeks.
