Blast destroys Maryland apartments

NC_apartmentblast0811_1500x845Silver Spring, M.D. (NBC News) — An apartment complex near Washington, D.C. exploded Wednesday night, leaving at least two dead and dozens injured.

Dramatic aerials show just how devastating the explosion was, and witnesses recount stories of dropping children out of windows and jumping out themselves.

The two bodies were pulled from the rubble Thursday morning and have not been identified.

There could be more casualties because several others who live in the apartment complex are still missing or unaccounted for.

Hampering search or rescue efforts are burned-out buildings that investigators say are currently too dangerous to enter.
