Bomb suspect wounded in shootout

nc_suspectstretcher0919_1500x845(NBC News) — A man suspected in a string of bombings in New York and New Jersey over the weekend has been taken into custody after a gun battle with police in Linden, New Jersey.

28-year-old Ahmad Rahami and two police officers were wounded in the exchange of gunfire. Both officers are expected to survive.

Witnesses say Rahami was shot in the leg. One police officer was shot in the hand; the other was hit in the chest, but was wearing a bullet-proof vest and wasn’t seriously injured.

The FBI announced early Monday that Rahami was wanted in connection with an explosion in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood that injured 29 people, as well as a pipe bomb blast in Seaside Park, New Jersey.
