UPDATE: Police response shuts down Medford neighborhood

Update (04-13-23 (4:30 p.m.) – Police explained what led to a heavy police presence in a Medford neighborhood.

The Medford Police Department said on the afternoon of Thursday, April 13, someone called 911 to report shots heard in the area of Portland Avenue and East 10th Street.

At about 1:14 p.m., Medford police officers responded to the scene. They were quickly joined by MPD detectives, negotiators, and SWAT team members to help with what was determined to be an armed barricaded person.

Eventually, investigators said they determined the person was dead due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Out of respect for the family and friends associated with this sensitive incident, no further information will be released,” MPD said. “There will be no further comment.”


Update (4-13-23, 3:00 p.m.) – “Incident has been resolved,” Medford police said. “We will provide an incident recap when details are available.

Multiple agencies were at the scene and citizens are advised to avoid the area.
