Family of man found in Klamath River speaks out

Siskiyou County, Ore., — “Jesse Ward was no ordinary human, he was very loving and caring.” said Ward’s niece, Amelia Lewis.

Jesse Ward’s body was found partially submerged in the Klamath River Monday.

The 62-year-old man from Happy Camp was loved by many friends, family and his four dogs.

“He was loved by the community. Everyone who drove by would honk, or stop by to visit.”

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says his death may be a homicide but won’t know for sure until the autopsy.

“We have some investigative leads, right now we don’t know what the cause and manner of death is.”

Sheriff Jon Lopey says Ward had ties to the home closest to where he was found.

“We got a search warrant for the residence, and the out building, and some travel trailers and some other structures on the property.”

Lewis says no matter what the outcome, he will be greatly missed.

“My Uncle Jesse was an amazing man and I hope his name lives on, he always be missed and live on in our hearts.”
