Jackson County, Ore. – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public to stick to “well-traveled routes” after a family became stranded on a remote logging road.

Deputies said the family was following directions from Apple Maps while they were trying to drive to a fishing hole.

They eventually became stranded in mud and snow. JSCO said they had just enough cell service to call 911 for help.

“Don’t let the warmer weather (and technology) fool you – plenty of backroads in the county are impassable for normal traffic,” wrote deputies. “Please be safe out there – and stick to well-traveled routes.”
