Fatal ATV crash under investigation

0906 Walker Thomas KellogUpdate (09/06 12:30 p.m.) — Police have arrested 25-year-old Winchester Bay resident Walker Thomas Kellog in connection with the fatal hit and run ATV accident that killed one person and seriously wounded another.

Deputies said Kellog was arrested at the Newport Shilo Inn on Monday at around 9:10 p.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said 24-year-old Danielle Elizabeth Gockel-Figge was also arrested at the Shilo Inn for hindering prosecution. She was allegedly a passenger of the Polaris ATV at the time of the crash.

Kellog was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of second degree manslaughter, second degree assault, and felony hit and run.

Winchester Bay, Ore. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s department said deputies responded to an ATV crash north of Banshee Hill in Winchester Bay around 11:00 Friday morning.

Deputies said two people were riding double on a Honda ATV when they were struck by a Polaris side-by-side ATV.

According to DCSO, the Polaris was occupied by two men and a woman who briefly stopped after the incident, but ultimately fled into the trees on foot near the ATV shed on Salmon Harbor Drive. Deputies were not able to locate the suspects.

The driver of the Honda, identified by police as 27-year-old Benjamin Wohl, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The passenger, 30-year-old Breauna Ellison, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
