Fire brings concern for business owners

Shady Cove, Ore. —  As firefighters worked to contain the fire near Trail, business owners hoped the fire wouldn’t impact their bottom line.

After last year’s Stouts Fire dragged Shady Cove’s business profits down, local business owners were worried the Cleveland Ridge Fire would cause a drop in customers.

Fortunately, the fire hasn’t had as much impact on air quality, which makes it easier for shoppers to go outside.

It’s something the owner of Shady Cove Market is thrilled about.

“It’s not affecting people where they have to stock up and get ready to go somewhere and evacuate,” said owner Fred Thomas. “Last year, August was a really smoky month. You could hardly see across the street.”

Shady Cove business owners said they just hope the fire doesn’t get any worse. Though they’re staying optimistic about weather conditions for now, they are preparing for just in case.
