Free cantaloupes

Medford, Ore., –Do you like cantaloupe? Because tonight a Medford business is giving tons of the melon away, for free!

A semi truck carrying 20 tons of cantaloupe rolled over on I-5 on Sunday morning catching on fire and trapping the driver inside.

The passengers were all treated with minor injuries, but those 20 tons of fruit were deemed unfit for their destination.

“We got the go ahead to go and donate it, because often times the company is not able to accept them. So that’s what we did, we recovered it.” said Melissa Shreeve, the business development manager for  Star 24 Hour Towing.

Most of the melons have been given away to non-profits, the salvation army and food banks. But there are still some pallets left that are up for grabs!

Star 24 Hour Towing is keeping them in a refrigerated truck. Contact them to see if you can get any melons for yourself.
